What is the Purpose of the Teen Driver "ALERT" Bumper Sticker?
The Teen Driver ALERT Bumper Sticker "alerts" other drivers around you that you are a "Less Experienced" Driver. By displaying the Teen Driver ALERT Bumper Sticker, other Drivers will be more Tolerant of your behavior behind the wheel and give you the additional Caution you may need in gaining your experience.
What is the ID# on the Tattle Teen Bumper Sticker used for?
This is your Unique ID#. It is assigned specifically to YOU. When the ID# is "activated" by purchasing the Annual Reporting Service, it allows Tattle Teen to know who a caller is referencing when they call the Toll Free number on the bumper sticker to Report Your Driving. The caller tells Tattle Teen the ID# they saw on the vehicle and we in turn know who to notify of the Report.
What is the purpose of the Annual Reporting Service?
The Annual Reporting Service provides other motorist the opportunity to report any driving behavior, good or bad, back to the parent or appropriate person. The reporting service is active 24/7 for 12-months starting the day the bumper sticker is activated online.
It’s simple, effective and most importantly, it works!
How do I activate the ID# on my Tattle Teen Bumper Sticker?
Purchasing the Annual Reporting Service allows the customer to "activate" your Tattle Teen bumper sticker. Each bumper sticker has a Unique ID# used to activate your service and by other motorist to report a driver.
To activate your Tattle Teen bumper sticker, click on the "Activate My Account" tab on the upper left colmun of the homepage. You will need to enter your Order # (received by email after purchasing the Annual Reporting Service) and the Decal # provided on the bumper sticker in Step #1.
Step #2 allows the customer to enter their contact information. You will receive an "Activation Successful" message via e-mail. The expiration date will be 12 months from the time you activate your account. Affix the bumper sticker to the vehicle. You are ready to go!
Do I have to activate my ID# to use the Teen Driver "ALERT" Bumper Sticker?
No. Displaying the Teen Driver ALERT Bumper Sticker will still "alert" other drivers around you that you are a "Less Experienced" Driver and that they should be more Tolerant of your behavior behind the wheel and give you the additional Caution you may need in gaining your experience. Your ID# will just be invalid.
"Activating" the ID# allows Tattle Teen to get the Reports from other drivers to YOU! So... Although activating your ID# is not required, we highly recommend it to take Full Advantage of Helping to Reduce TEEN Fatalities!
How can I be sure if the reporting service works?
The trucking industry has reported a 30% to 50% reduction in accidents since implementing the reporting service on their vehicles. While we cannot guarantee your teen driver will not have an accident, the Tattle Teen Bumper Sticker will serve as a deterrent from him/her in making intentional, potentially fatal mistakes. You will be able to address incidents that are reported to you with your teen or company driver.
Tattle Teen bumper stickers help to remind drivers to drive responsibly, encourage accountability, and empower one to think behind the wheel. The sticker can offer help in dealing with difficult situations and/or the “peer pressures” associated with teen driving.
Do teenagers support this safety program?
Yes. Teenagers want to be safe and knowledgeable drivers. They want other drivers around them to know that they are Learning and need some additional Tolerance and Caution on the road while they gain their Experience. The more interaction between the parents and the teen driver, the safer you and they will be when driving on the road. Everyone benefits from safe drivers, not just teenagers. Teenagers want and need safety guidance from parents to prevent them for getting into trouble or getting into a vehicle accident.
Tattle Teen is committed to saving lives, preventing accidents, and limiting traffic violations.
How do you suggest we share the driving report with our teen driver?
While you are in the best position to know how to communicate with your teenager, we would suggest sharing the report with your teen driver and letting him/her explain their side of the story. Since we are dealing with new drivers, often their mistakes are a result of their inexperience. Continue to work proactively with your teen to help them continue developing and practicing safe driving skills. Create a short list of items you want to discuss and how to to take corrective action.
How do I address false driving reports with my teen driver?
While it is inevitable kids will play tricks on other kids to get them in trouble, Tattle Teen will record and forward every call that is reported to us. Tattle Teen requires specific information that will make false reporting difficult for the "prank caller" to answer. Because the driving reports are made by anonymous callers, it should be taken into consideration that some reports may not be accurate. Take this opportunity to discuss safety awareness and ask if they have any questions during this time.
Will Tattle Teen provide a driving report to law enforcement authorities?
Tattle Teen is here to support you as the concerned parent or guardian of a teen driver. We believe parents have the greatest influence over their kids. If there is an emergency, please dial 9-1-1 for immediate emergency service. Tattle Teen does not interfere with or act as law enforcement officials.
Can I speak to the observer who reported the driving report?
No. It is important to maintain the confidentiality of the caller. Most observers will remain anonymous when calling in or filing a report. Tattle Teen will screen every call to ensure proper information is provided to you.
What are the most common driving reports?
Speeding, driving while on a cell phone, talking to other passengers and not paying attention, running a stop sign or red/yellow light, blaring music, tailgating, weaving, and not using turn signals are the most common driving reports.
Our teenage drivers don’t drive very often. How can your services help?
Local drivers are exposed to many more risks, however, because of many drivers operating within their driving environment. Most accidents occur near a vehicle's domiciled location because that is where most driving is done. Tattle Teen services work equally well for both, local and highway drivers because the system focuses on monitoring the performance of individual drivers who are away from supervision.
What if I have more than 1 teen driver in my household?
If another teen in your household is using the same car, they are covered. You will need to keep track of who is using the car at any given time in the event an incident is called in for the driver of the car at that time. If the second teen is using his/her own car, you will need to enroll the second car.
My teen driver is strongly opposed to a bumper sticker on their vehicle.
It's best to talk to your teen driver about your concerns. This program is NOT intended to discipline kids, due to lack of trust, or to invade their privacy. This program is intended to build trust between the parents and teen driver and to promote safety and awareness pertaining to driving. It can be explained that more driving privileges are earned through trust and safe driving. The only method for you, as parents, to gain that trust is by monitoring their driving behavior over a period of time.
Invasion of privacy is another issue with teen drivers. As parents, you have the right to enter your teens bedroom if there were reasons or concerns regarding their safety and well being...a vehicle is no exception. Given the frightening statistics of teen driving accidents, you as parents, need peace of mind knowing their safety is your #1 priority.
What if my bumper sticker is tampered with or removed?
Teenagers may decide to alter the unique ID number or remove the bumper sticker. Tattle Teen recommends including this topic in the Parent-Teen Driving Contract. Include consequences so the teen driver has an understanding of this action. A replacement bumper sticker is available for purchase should you require another one.
How long will it take to receive a driving report?
Once a call is placed, an e-mail report is generated and forwarded to you via e-mail within 24 hours. It is recommended that you furnish Tattle Teen with an e-mail address that is not accessible by your kids.

What does OBD-II mean and how can I tell if my vehicle is equipped with one?
The OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostic) connector is a universal serial port auto technicians use to read your vehicle's computer system.
Where is the OBD-II connector located?
The connector must be located within three feet of the driver and must not require any tools to be revealed. Look under the driver's side dash or behind the ashtray.
Does my vehicle have an OBD-II connector?
All cars and light trucks built and sold in the United States after January 1, 1996 were required to be OBD II equipped. In general, this means all 1996 model year cars and light trucks are compliant, even if built in late 1995.
Two factors will show if your vehicle is definitely OBD II equipped:
1) There will be an OBD II connector easily seen under your dash, and
2) There will be a message on a sticker or nameplate under the hood: "OBD II compliant".

How do you address the fact that your services are basically negative?
Only a small percentage of teenage drivers will likely have patterns of negative reports. Talking with your teenagers about a driving report is far less negative than talking with them about, or disciplining them because of accidents.
For example, your truly safe teenage drivers are those that do not have accidents, moving traffic violations, or negative driving reports. They are the ones to reward and recognize. They are doing something right!
There are several ways to discuss the bumper sticker (Teen Driving Program) with your teenage driver:
Will I receive an insurance discount?
Because the program is new, we know of no auto insurance company offering discounts as of today. However, Tattle Teen is working with insurance companies in making the roadways safer. Through advertising and awareness programs, the big insurance companies like Allstate and State Farm have shown great interest in teen driver safety.
The best way to lower your insurance costs is to lower your accident losses. Personal insurance policies are usually "experience rated" by an underwriter. The fewer accidents you have, the lower your "experience modifier" and therefore, the lower your rates will be. A lower accident rate also makes you more attractive to other insurance companies. You may be able to "shop" your policy and save even more money.
